Help Your Kids Create a Great Lemonade Stand
One of the best ways for children to learn life lessons is to have them turn lemons into lemonade, literally. But, while anyone can set up a table and serve beverages to passers by, keeping a few extra things in mind will really set your son or daughter's stand apart from the rest. And, if you're lucky, they'll have fantastic memories that will last a lifetime.
Tip 1: Safety First
Entrepreneurial kids will want to do everything themselves, but parental guidance is a must when it comes to kitchen prep and customer service. Help young pups with their lemonade recipe, and remind them to never approach vehicles when trying to sell their goods. They can still maintain a sense of autonomy, while being aware of potential dangers.
Tip 2: Keep It Fresh
It's easy (and kid-proof) to use a lemonade-flavored powder mix, but go the extra mile and make it fresh. Not only will your kids get to reap the rewards of their hard work squeezing lemons and making simple syrup, but their customers will also appreciate the quality of their product.
Tip 3: Upsell
If your kids are already selling the deliciously tart beverage, they can try their hand at upselling their customers with other items. You don't have to go crazy, but a fresh-baked cookie or salty snack could sweeten the deal.
Tip 4: Location, Location, Location
The first rule in real estate also applies to your child's lemonade stand. You want to choose a safe location with a lot of foot traffic, which may even be your front yard. If you have to travel, make sure the area allows your son or daughter to set up shop without a permit. You don't want anything raining on your child's parade.
Tip 5: Giving Back
Of course, earning money through hard work is a powerful feeling, but giving back can fill hearts twice over. Ask your children to consider donating a portion of their profits to those in need. Research worthy causes online together, and establish a charitable percentage up front.
