hot spring fashion trends

As the weather begins to warm up, we can't wait to ditch the snow boots and start sporting pastel colors, light and airy fabrics and the hottest new trends of the season. What should you be adding to your wardrobe? Style expert Petra Flannery reveals the top trends of Spring 2013, and the do's and don'ts of wearing each trend.

TOP TRENDS FOR SPRING 2013:

CUTOUTS
Cutouts are popping up everywhere, from dresses and tops to shoes and accessories, adding contemporary flair to otherwise basic designs.

DO keep it tasteful - no need for overexposure to ruin the peek-a-boo aesthetic.

FLORAL PRINTS
Florals are back again for spring and no longer reserved for your linens. A great floral print will add a romantic sensibility to your look.

DON'T be afraid to mix floral prints for an edgier feel.

RUFFLES
Ruffles are huge for spring - from exaggerated, simplistic ruffles to multi-layered tissue ruffles, these will add a feminine, flirtatious element to your look.

DO make sure the ruffle placement is flattering to your figure.

THE STRUCTURED SKIRT
Structured, bell-shaped skirts are in this season.

DO experiment with bold, unexpected colors.

DON'T pair a bell skirt with loose, baggy tops (save those for your skinny jeans) as this will make the tiniest figure appear heavy.

BLACK & WHITE
Black & White is dramatic yet always chic - in fact it's hard to mess up this trend.

DON'T be afraid of bold black and white stripes.

DO try fun black and white patterns. For those who tend to wear a lot of black during the cooler months, throwing in some white elements is a great way to transition into spring.
