As a mother and a grammie I can tell you the best gift you can give is your time, attention and memories. Make up a photo album of family pics that maybe she hasn't seen before, offer to scrub her bathroom down,, as we get older things like that are hard for us to do, give her a pedicure, pampering is always welcome. For parents, G-parents on a fixed income, forget the posies and such, get them neccesities that will help thier budget go farther. Spending a ton of $$ isn't neccesary, give your time.

My eldist is three so it's up to my husband to plan a gift, I hope he get's the kids involved. As for my mother, she is getting on a little, she has or doesn't want most things so it get's harder. She believes in practical gifts and not wasting money on cards and flowers. I am getting her an SVC cell phone so I can call her as often as I can and the minutes are cheap because they go through Tracfone so she can call the kids and I too. I like knowing that if she were to have a fall in the bathroom she could call for help and not have to get to the living room land line.

My bestest gift I got last year from my 8 yr. old grandson, a matchbox car (well played with) some asst. lego pieces, some candy he got for valentines day, and a card he made himself.LOL. Of course, the big Hug was the best part. You can't beat gifts like that.

Typical arrogant assumption that people don't like traditional gifts. I happen to like bath salts, and I wouldn't appreciate yet another 'gentle' reminder that I need to lose weight, write down every trivial thought I have so that I can bore others with my brilliance, decorate myself more lavishly, and otherwise prove my worth by appearance. Frankly, I have much better things to do with my time.

nicely said 'ALL'....we live in 'real world' ! I used to want just a card, 'handmade was the best', now that all six are trying to make it in today's world, e.g. - keep a job, keep a place to live, climb out of school loan debt, etc. etc. , an email is fine, skype is better, forget the 4 to 5 dollar card ( becuz it wouldn't be on time anyway ! lol ; ) . But most importantly, LIVE , LAUGH, and LOVE one another! We only get one ticket on this earthly ride, hugs and kisses are free!!!!

I am not to sure many moms would appreciate a post-pilates DVD. It seems to be saying "your fat so here is something to help". I also was lucky to have time to brush my teeth. Where do I have time to exercise? In between trying to catch some sleep and feeding and diapering?

Nothing on that list for me! :( Tools or anything for my Harleys. Not every Mom is a girly girl. Just get Mom something that she will enjoy. What are her hobbies and interests? Has she mentioned, "Gee, I sure wish I had a..."? Is there something she could use, maybe something as simple as an oil change, new tires or brakes? Maybe she would love it if you would have her car detailed. I'm just saying. Don't fall into the "Jewelry/Makeup/Dinner/Blouse/Electronics" trap, unless she is really INTO that stuff. Don't feel bad if you can't buy her that expensive necklace that "shows Mom how much you love her". You can show her without the diamonds.
